Freight methods and delivery dates
Set up your freight methods and volume charges, local delivery days, and understand the one date rule behind every delivery date.
Your freight methods (such as sea and air) do two jobs in Flyte. They set the freight part of every sell price, and their transit times, together with local delivery days, decide the delivery dates your customers are offered.
#Freight methods
Go to Settings → Shipping & freight → Freight tables. Each Freight method has:
- Default — the method new orders start with,
- Transit buffer — days from the factory to your warehouse, used for ETD suggestions and customer dates,
- volume bands — Volume from (m³) and Charge, with Add band for more.
Freight is charged on a product's folded volume, not its weight. These tables feed the Freight column of each product's pricing, so each method has its own sell price. See Pricing tiers: buy and sell prices.
Watch out
A product with no folded size cannot have freight worked out. Fill in Size when folded & freight on the product's Details tab.
#Local delivery
Go to Settings → Shipping & freight → Local delivery. This holds the warehouse-to-customer leg:
- default days,
- the default local carrier,
- days by region,
- a rural add-on.
There are no per-customer days.
#The one date rule
Flyte uses the same sum everywhere: the customer's confirmation page, the urgent flag, the customer's Freight & delivery card, and the order's date pickers.
Earliest standard date = longest product lead time + freight transit buffer + local delivery days
- Local delivery days are added only when the order comes through your warehouse, which is the default.
- A PO set to Direct to the customer skips the local leg.
- Region days apply when the delivery address falls in a region; rural addresses add the rural days.
- Factory closures show as warnings but never move a date.
- The date rule never affects price.
#Urgent orders
If a customer asks for a date sooner than the earliest standard date, the order is flagged URGENT. Dates you set on the order work the same way: a date inside the lead time marks it urgent, and moving it back out clears the flag. You are asked to confirm whenever the flag is about to change.
#Factory ETDs
When you create POs from orders, each Factory ETD is pre-filled as the order's delivery date minus the freight method's transit buffer, and minus the local delivery days when the goods come through your warehouse.
#One freight method per shipment and PO
A shipment travels one way, and so does a PO. Orders with different freight methods cannot share a PO, and a shipment cannot mix methods.
#Common questions
The customer's date is later than I expected. Local delivery days, including region or rural days, are added when the order comes through your warehouse.
Where is local cartage? It has been replaced by Local delivery in Settings.
Why did changing a freight table change product prices? Freight tables feed sell prices. Manual and locked prices do not move.
