Creating a customer

Add a new customer company, choose their customer code, set their type, currency and mark-up, and follow the order of work that avoids "I can't see it" calls.

A customer in Flyte is a company you make for: a club, school or business, often a reseller. Everything about them hangs off that one record: their people, sub groups, addresses, products, orders, mark-up, logo, brand colour and detailings. This article covers creating the record and the order to do the rest in.

#The order of work for a new customer

Do these in order. Steps 4 and 5 are the ones most often skipped, and they cause most "I can't see it" calls later.

  1. Create the record (Company details).
  2. Add their Addresses.
  3. Add their People.
  4. Create their Sub groups.
  5. Assign people to sub groups.
  6. Add their Detailings.
  7. Invite them to the portal.
  8. Give them products to order.

#Step by step: create the record

  1. Go to Customers and press Add customer. Company details opens as "New customer".
  2. Fill in the sections below.
  3. Press Save changes in the Unsaved changes bar at the bottom. Discard throws your changes away.

Sub groups, people and detailings need the company saved once first.

#Business

  • Business name.
  • Customer code — required. 1–9 letters or numbers, no spaces or symbols, and unique across your account. It is the spine of every product code you make for them, so agree it before you type it.
  • Product prefix — 2–3 characters added to product codes.
  • Customer type — B2B (wholesale) or Retail. This also drives the B2B and Retail tabs on the Customers and Products pages.
  • Currency — the customer's currency, shown on the list and on their Account card.

#Brand

Their Logo, an optional Logo for light backgrounds, and their Brand colour. See Customer logo and brand colour.

#Pricing

The customer's own mark-up tiers. Pick a Code, enter the Mark-up % and press Add tier; each tier saves straight away.

  • With no tiers of their own, the customer uses your defaults from Settings → Pricing & FX → Default mark-up tiers.
  • COST is fixed at 0%.
  • Tick Bypass mark-up to sell to them at buy price plus freight, with no mark-up.

#Payment terms

Shown only if your account has invoicing switched on.

#The Customers list

  • Tabs All, B2B and Retail. Search by name, code, contact or email.
  • Columns: Code, Business name, Main contact, Users, Type, Tags, Currency and Markup tier (Default, Custom or Bypass).
  • The row ⋯ menu has Open customer, Edit company details, People, Sub groups and Delete customer.

Clicking a row opens the full-page customer workspace.

#The customer workspace

Tabs: Overview, Company details, Sub groups, People, Detailings and Products.

The header has View as customer, New visual, New order and an Actions menu (Edit company details, Add a person, Add a sub group, Copy customer code, view their products, orders or visuals, Delete customer). ‹ › steps between customers.

The Overview tab shows Open orders, Ordered this year, Products and Visuals in progress, their open orders and visuals, their sub groups (Manage), and Account and Mark-up tiers cards with Edit.

#Deleting a customer

Delete customer sends the customer to the Graveyard. If you restore it, its products, orders and sub groups come back with it.

#Common questions

The customer code is refused. It must be 1–9 letters or numbers with no spaces or symbols, and no other customer can already have it.

The customer's prices look wrong. Check the Pricing section: do they have their own tiers, are they on your defaults, or is Bypass mark-up ticked?

The customer's portal is empty. They have no catalogue products yet. Customer products are built from base products in Products.
