Create in Shopify

If your account has it switched on, push a Flyte order to Shopify as a draft order, update it, and see how the completed Shopify order links back.

Create in Shopify is for businesses still invoicing or taking payment through Shopify while running orders in Flyte. It sends a Flyte order to Shopify as a draft order, ready to invoice and be paid there.

This feature is switched on per account by your platform support team. If there is no Shopify group under the order's Actions menu, it isn't on. It is never shown on an order that came from Shopify.

#When it's available

The button is greyed out until the order is confirmed, by the customer or by your team taking it past Draft. Before that there is no address, PO number or freight to send.

It is also refused when:

  • the order has no line items;
  • the order is split (push each split order instead);
  • the order is in the Graveyard;
  • the Shopify draft has already been completed.

#Step by step

  1. Open the order and choose Actions → Shopify → Create in Shopify. It shows "Checking Shopify…".
  2. Read the preview:
    • Products — each is in Shopify (matched by SKU), found — will link, create (Draft), or a custom line. A missing customer-specific product is created in Shopify as an unpublished Draft product: it exists for the order, but isn't on sale.
    • Customer — the order's contact, matched by email: linked, found, or not in Shopify, will be created. With no contact or no email it reads No customer.
    • Price — every line at the order's price, plus GST if your store's prices include tax.
    • Check — any warnings.
  3. Press Create draft order. The draft opens in a new tab.

Creating products can take a minute ("Still working in Shopify…"). You can leave the page and check back.

#What the draft carries

The Flyte order number and display name, the customer's PO number and the delivery address. Names and numbers don't exist in Shopify, so the line says to see the Flyte order.

#Updating the draft

Afterwards the Shopify group shows the draft's name, when it was pushed, and View in Shopify ↗. The button becomes Update draft in Shopify, which replaces the draft's lines with the order's current lines. If the old draft was deleted in Shopify, a new one is made.

#When it's completed in Shopify

Within a few minutes, or at the next Shopify order import, Flyte links the completed Shopify order to this order. It is never imported as a second order. The group reads Completed in Shopify as order #…, and the Flyte order takes Shopify's order number (for example, MAN-0072 becomes 5001). The draft number (#D…) is never used. If another order already has that number, the old number is kept and the timeline says why.

#Common questions

Why was a product sent as a custom line? It isn't in Shopify and couldn't be created. Only customer-specific products are created, and product creation must also be switched on by platform support. Or the SKU wasn't recognised.

Why was a size sent as a custom line? That size isn't on the Shopify product. The push never adds sizes to a live product. Push the product from its Sync tab in Products.

"The Shopify product is draft/archived…" This is information only.

A currency warning appeared. The order's currency differs from your store's.

"No delivery address on the order." Add one in Shipment & delivery details, then update the draft.

"Could not work out a country code." Check the country on the delivery address.
