Creating a customer product

Make a decorated version of a base product for one customer, with its own code, sub group and pricing choice.

3 min read

A customer product is a base product decorated for one customer: the same garment with their logo, colours or names. It belongs to that one customer, shows in their portal, and stays linked to its base for sizes and (if you choose) pricing.

#When you'd do this

  • A customer wants their own version of a style in your range.
  • You are setting up a new club or business with the products they will reorder.
  • A visual has been approved and you want the product in the database. In that case you can also use Push to DB on the visual, which creates the customer product for you.

#Step by step

  1. Open the base product, or find it on Products.
  2. Choose + Customer variant from the row's ⋯ menu or the workspace's Actions menu.
  3. Pick the Customer (required).
  4. Optionally pick a Sub-Customer (sub group), such as the club's Juniors or Seniors group. This decides which of the customer's people see it in their portal.
  5. Enter a Variation Code and Variation Description.
  6. Check the Generated SKU, which is built from the base code and your variation code.
  7. Decide whether to tick Inherit pricing from base product. Ticked means the pricing stays linked to the base.
  8. Press Create.

#What it inherits

Detail Behaviour
Size group and size chart Always from the base.
Pricing From the base while linked.
Style, Category, Technique, Neckline / waist, Gender Changes on the base reach it.
MOQ From the base unless you set one on the customer product.
Lead time and folded size Can be inherited from the base if left empty.
Fabric Copied once; later changes on the base do not reach it.
Everything else Copied once, then editable.

#Inherit pricing or not?

  • Ticked (linked): the customer pays your standard prices for that base. When you update the base's pricing, this product updates too.
  • Unticked: the product gets its own copy of the base's current pricing, which you can then edit freely. Changes to the base no longer reach it.

You can change your mind later on the product's Pricing tab. See Linked and custom pricing.

#Sub groups and who can see it

A customer's people see customer products from their own sub groups, plus any product with no sub group. If you leave Sub-Customer blank, everyone at that customer sees it. If you choose one, only people assigned to that sub group (and the customer's account admin) see it.

Good to know

If a customer says they cannot see a product, the sub group is the most common reason. Check which sub group the product is in and which people are assigned to it, and use View as customer to confirm what they see.

#Adding the finishing details

After creating it, open the new product and add:

  • photos and artwork on Files,
  • logos and detailings on Artwork & files (see Detailings),
  • any notes for your team and the factory on Notes & timeline.

#Creating one with no base

If a customer product has no blank in your range, use Add product and set a customer as the Owner. This makes a customer product with no base. Nothing is inherited, so you set sizes, pricing and production details on it directly.

#Common questions

Can I move a customer product to another customer? No. The owner is locked. Duplicate it, choose the new owner, then delete the old one if needed.

The customer's product shows the wrong sizes. Where do I fix it? On the base. Sizes always come from the base; use Open base on the Sizes tab.

I edited the base description. Why didn't the customer product change? Description is copied once. Edit the customer product.
